Canadian Solar was founded in 2001 and made its debut on the NASDAQ in 2006. Over the past two decades, Canadian Solar has become a global leader in solar energy and energy storage solutions.

By the conclusion of December 2024, CSI Solar anticipates its production capacities for ingots, wafers, cells, and modules to reach 50.4GW, 50.0GW, 55.7GW, and 61.0GW, respectively. By enhancing vertical integration within our manufacturing processes, CSI Solar aims to exert greater control over technology, costs, and the supply chain, fortifying their long-term competitive edge.

Their products consistently rank in Tier 1, among the top 5 globally in production, and number 1 in quality and performance/price (according to the IHS Markit Survey). Canadian Solar has been a pioneer in creating new trends, applying various cutting-edge technologies to solar panels, such as Black Silicon, PERC, Half-cut cells, 9 Busbars, Bifacial, and Dual Modules, reducing investment costs, improving electricity output, and increasing the system’s lifespan.

The application of multiple new technologies enables Canadian Solar panels to have a capacity over 26% higher than conventional panels, reducing the impact of shading on the panel surface, lowering LCOE electricity production costs by up to 4.5%, system cost by up to 2.7%, and shortening the payback period for projects.

ENVIRONMENTAL

From 2017 to 2022, CSI achieved reductions in our greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, energy intensity, water intensity, and waste intensity of 20%, 25%, 67%, and 45%, respectively. Specifically, on GHG emissions, CSI have made further progress towards climate impact transparency by disclosing certain scope 3 emissions.

CSI updated our 5-year rolling targets, aiming to achieve GHG emission, energy intensity, water intensity, and waste intensity reductions of 28%, 29%, 26% and 23%, respectively, from 2022 levels by 2027.

CSI is on track to achieve the goal of powering global operations with 100% renewable electricity before 2030

SOCIAL

CSI aims to increase female employees’ representation in our global workforce from 32% to 40%, their representation in middle management from 26% to 30%, and their representation in senior management from 7% to 10% from 2022 levels by 2027. CSI also plans to increase the share of our employees with people with disabilities to 1-2% by 2027 from 0.6% in 2022. CSI are certified under ISO14001 environmental and ISO45001 occupational health and safety management systems, and our recordable injury rate in 2022 was 0.75 cases per million working hours.

Canadian Solar is committed to ensuring ethical labor practices in the Company’s operations and suppliers. In 2022, CSI conducted 122 supplier ESG audits and initiated a third-party assessment to evaluate the effectiveness of its Anti-Modern Slavery Policy, Supplier Code of Conduct, and Human Rights Policy in preventing forced labor, among other initiatives. Specifically, CSI engaged the Responsible Business Alliance to conduct a Validated Assessment Program, covering areas of labor practices, health and safety, environment, ethics, and management systems.

GOVERNANCE

The Sustainability Committee at Canadian Solar’s Board reviews sustainability (including climate)-related risks and opportunities associated with our strategy and business development; monitors progress, advises, and assists the Board on strategic measures related to the Company’s long-term sustainability; and oversees the progress and execution of ESG plans.

Canadian Solar’s Board is dedicated to enhancing board diversity. Their Board has met the requirements of the NASDAQ New Rule 5605(f) for Diverse Board Representation in the specified time frame.

RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT (R&D)

RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT

Has begun the mass production of N-type TOPCon modules up to 690W in Q1 2023, and the highest module power is expected to be increased to up to 715W.

Launched the SolBank, a proprietary designed and manufactured energy storage battery solution for utility-scale applications, and the EP Cube, a lightweight and sleek all-in-one residential energy storage solution in Sept. 2022.

2,134 authorized patents worldwide. PV research centers on cells, modules, and solar systems. 595 experienced researchers in the R & D department.
